Lead Sustainability and Resilience in the Coorong

Coorong District Council is SA’s largest rural council by land area. The district spans 8,832 sqm of predominantly primary industries & residential living and is home to The Bend Motorsport Park. With the main service centre at Tailem Bend, just over an hour (approx. 95kms) South East of Adelaide’s CBD, other major centres within the district include Meningie & Tintinara.

Coorong District Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Sustainability Officer to lead strategic sustainability, climate resilience and natural resource management initiatives across the region. Reporting directly to the CEO, this role offers the opportunity to make a lasting impact through environmental leadership, community partnerships and innovative project delivery.

About the Role

You will lead Council's sustainability portfolio, manage a small team, and work closely with government agencies, industry, community groups and regional partners, including the Coorong District Local Action Plan (LAP) Committee and Tatiara District Local Action Plan (LAP) Committee, to deliver projects that support biodiversity, sustainable agriculture and environmental resilience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead sustainability, environmental management and climate resilience programs.
  • Develop and deliver projects that support biodiversity, natural resource management     and sustainable agriculture.
  • Secure and manage grant funding opportunities.
  • Build and maintain collaborative partnerships with the Coorong District LAP Committee, Tatiara District LAP Committee, government agencies, industry and community stakeholders to deliver sustainable regional outcomes.
  • Build strategic partnerships and engage with key stakeholders.
  • Provide expert advice on sustainability, climate adaptation and regional resilience.
  • Lead and mentor staff while fostering a positive team culture.

About You

You will have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Natural Resource Management, or a related discipline or demonstrated experience, knowledge and skills commensurate with the requirements and objectives of the position.
  • Experience managing sustainability, environmental or natural resource management projects.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, project management and grant-writing skills.
  • Knowledge of climate resilience, environmental sustainability and regional development.
  • A current driver's licence.
